The committee has been formed with the objective of promoting national unity, brotherhood, and the spirit of secular democracy, as well as maintaining communal harmony and a peaceful environment. These committees are responsible for organizing the celebration of major festivals and events such as Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and Basant Panchami in a collective manner. They also invite and honor freedom fighters and individuals who, by putting their lives at risk, saved members of other communities during communal riots, as well as those recognized under the inter-religious marriage encouragement scheme, so that other members of society can draw inspiration from them. A budget of Rs. 15,00,000 is allocated for this purpose in each financial year.
